Created by MIT, Scratch is a very accessible programming software for kids to create their own interactive stories, animations and presentations. Kids can share and tag their projects and comment on other projects that have been shared.
Developed by Carnegie Mellon University, Alice is another user-friendly intro to programming. Users can create 3D environments suited to storytelling and game creation. Meant to be used as a teaching tool for students and teachers.
